ROGERS NEWSLETTER

Wednesday November 4

Dear Parents and Guardians:
We will remember one week from today. At Rogers, our Remembrance Day assembly takes place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10. It should last for about half an hour, and we sincerely hope that parents, grandparents and other members of our extended Rogers family join us.

I have often thought that I am indeed blessed to grow up in the era and civilization which you and I share. I haven't had to fight, nor have I known real terror. I also know that the world I inherited isn't perfect(by a long shot), but it wouldn't be so rich without the sacrifices which men and women of past generations offered me.

I can't help but feel that we share a heavy responsibility to make sure that past sacrifices and lessons are never forgotten, and that our children continue the work of creating a country and a world which is populated by those who fight for libery, and for those other qualities which are shared by pople who understand responsibility and caring. I truly hope that we are effective in communicating this message-it is an important part of our desire to focus on virtues.

Chris Harvey
Principal

Information

  • New Folks: we are pleased to welcome two new staff members:
Heather Robbins is our new evening janitor. She is here until 10:30 every evening except Wednesday, when she finishes at 9:30 p.m.
Scott Rutherford is here on Tuesdays providing teacher prep relief in five classes.

  • Rock Solid: we are very pleased that students in grades 4-7 will have an opportunity to participate in Rock Solid performances at Rogers on Tuesday January 19. Parents may take part in a Rock Solid performance on Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 at S.J. Willis
We strongly support the message and focus of the Rock Solid team. This is a group of police officers from all local departmnets who come together with a passionate and clear message. Students learn not to be intimidated by threats or bullying, and to report violence , petty thefts, or the talk of gang fights that build.

  • Winter Concert: please mark your Parent Handbook & Calendar with a change in date for the Winter Concert. We have rescheduled it to Thursday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. More information will be forthcoming, although we will let the big secret out now- LOUISE ROSE HAS AGREED TO HOST A SINGALONG!

  • Fund Raising we've finally found a new fundraising and we're selling pizzas-6 inch individual frozen pizzas, individually wrapped. We'll be out in front of the school selling them on Friday November 20.

  • Junior Basketball Program: we would love to develop an intramural league for Intermediate students who are not part of the school team. However, in order to do this, we require a few parent coaches who would be willing to work with a team one day a week during a couple of winter months. Please let Chris know if you may be willing to help out. We already have two or three people, and need some more in order to share the responsibilities.

  • Liability Insurance: our district is strongly recommending that drivers acquire a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance. This will be required for all volunteer drivers as of September 1, 1999. We take this as a valuable piece of information because it is indicative of the level of coverage required.

  • Chicken Sales are ongoing, and available by calling the office at 727-0188. It can be so handy to have a case of chicken strips or breasts in the freezer for these busy fall evenings when so many family members are rushing to sporting practice or games. Thank you for supporting our fundraising.
