Rogers Avenue Elementary School Victoria BC. Rogers is a new elementary school for the Greater Victoria School District.
It was the winner of the Canadian Architect Award of Excellance for 1989.
The design brief is complex: to design a new elementary school to accommodate rapidly changing ideals and technology in education; to respond to the needs of new technology methods, community integration, extended education, computer based teaching and the integration of nature and institution. From this brief came a design statement embodying five principles, which gave rise to the floor plan and structural design for the building. In practice the school is bright and airy. Light penetrates to the heart of the school interior. Grass, trees and sky are visible from a multitude of viewpoints, and the Environmental programs in the curriculum further attune students to the appreciation of nature. |
